someday we'll all have perfect wings

That's an itty bitty silver peace sign pinned over my heart today. I stuck it there in honor of an itty bitty baby girl that couldn't stay. Only 19 weeks gestation yet able to radiate peace, able to touch us in the deepest part of our heart, the part we keep sacred for souls like hers. I held her mama and her papa held both of us. He knew. It wasn't her turn. Not yet, not here. He told us.
He will stand vigil over her tonight as his Buddhist traditions give him strength to "send her off".
I give thanks for men that are strong enough to be oh so gentle.
Prayers for the mama
Prayers for the 3 year old sister
Prayers for a midwife that is supposed to know why.

The errand of angels...

As midwives we prepare bodies for birth, to come into this realm (or receive those who are coming).

In past times, midwives also prepared bodies for death, for another realm.

The coming and the going, it is big and part of something holy.

Today, they were one in the same for you.

I am grateful to be a part.

Bri, we had no idea how big or how holy when we signed up for this. I am grateful for you. I could not walk this path without you.

One of the greatest gifts that can be bestowed upon a person, is the opportunity to be present as a soul is gifted back to the heavens. To witness and be a part of that... rejoice. You were chosen.

sometimes the most amazing rewarding jobs have some of the hardest parts too. they are lucky to get to have my mom help them through something most difficult. and you are lucky to get to have them help you in return.
